How to Clean White paint smudges off of my M3? Nicks & scratches?
Hi,

My M3 has several places on it where its been moved against wall paint, leaving white marks on it. I'd appreciated any ideas of products to use to remove those w/o damaging the wood or finish.

Also, if anyone has ideas of how to fill nicks etc, I'd love to hear of them too.

I had a Hammond CV with the same problems, lots of white paint streaks where it had rubbed against doorways when being moved. This worked wonders for me: first, gently "sand" away the paint with an ultrafine #0000 steel wool pad. If the smudges aren't too bad you may just be able to remove them like this and be done with it. But if it takes a little more effort to remove the paint you may also take off some of the finish in the process; in that case find a can of Howard's Restore-a-Finish in the appropriate wood type. Howard's is incredible, simply a wipe-on/wipe-off product that really will fill in the bad places in the finish, and bring the whole piece back to a much nicer shine. But one caution: make sure you have adequate ventilation! It gave me quite a buzz...

I'd say this process gives you about 85-90% of the look of a complete refinish job, with about 1-2% of the work. Worth a try in any case!

And she could be jivin' too...

Hurphy's Oil Soap - the solution to white nicks! (Re: How to Clean White paint smudges off of my M3? Nicks & scratches?)
Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion of the Murphy's Oil Soap. It took off ALL of the white paint, tar and other stuff on my M3. I cleaned it all up and it looks great.
