• Hammond Concorde 2300

Recently purchased Hammond 2300 and am in the process of cleaning cable connectors with Deoxit. I want to raise the top of the organ

to clean any cable connectors on the inside. What is the correct procedure for opening the top? Can't tell from peering inside from the back

with a light. I don't want to damage anything. Thanks Walter

    Walter,

Here's what I do: I place the palm of my hand on the outer case top edge, and then place my fingers on the wood to the underside of the music rack (you'll notice to the sides of the rack underneath, there's an indentation), and pry up. All those are a catch latches. I don't pull too hard, just enough to loosen it. After loosening both sides, I can raise the top, and put the rods underneath into the holes to secure the top. It's not hard, just takes a little finesse to do it at first.

Mark; Thanks a lot. That was so easy. But you would never think to try it unless you knew what to do. Thanks again. I have a lot to learn about this organ. From what I've read on all the posts, I need to know how to clean everything because apparently it has do be done on a regular basis if you're going to keep the thing operating. This 2300 had horrible (loud) erraticstatic problems in the speakers. They stopped afterspraying the big cable connectors coming out the amp with Deoxit.

Oh yes! The "LSI Disease" as we call it here. While you're in the organ, you might want to take off the back, and there are 6 filter boards attached vertiacally along the top back. Clean those contacts too. And keep in mind, that if 1/2 of a manual sounds wierd, that's the culprit. Another set to get are underneath the back of the top panel. You'll look right at them, as they run along the back of the inside of the organ. I had a situation where if I closed the top, and pressed a key, it would sound like I was sitting on the keyboard. Open up the cover, all was fine.

There are a few of us here that have experience with the Concorde series. I'm lucky enough to own the service manual, and can pretty much get myself out of anything that arises.

This Concorde had not been used for a while. It has the stainless steel pedalboard and black and walnut console.Don't know exactly what model number they called that one. And the multi colored silver, gold, etc. grillcloth. Looked like it had been taken care of. Wasn't scratched or beat up.I really liked the sound of it and didn't pay much for it. I've only had it about three weeks. After getting the static out the speakers and dead notes working, ( I did clean the sinewave filter connectors along the back of the organ) I played it a lot the first week maybe 2 hours a night. It is fun to play and pretty versatile for different types of music. It seems to me that you can address more styles of music effectively with it than with the old TWG Hammonds.Anyway, I guess I'm going to have to get an owners manual for it as I live in a small town and the nearest organ tech is 55 miles away. After being played quite a bit, the Leslie suddenly went dead while I was playing it. The rotor is spinning and it has a new mercotach switch. The mixer is working right because the pedal, percussion, lower notes, etc. that are supposed to come out of the main speakers while the Leslie is on comes out of the main, but no sound out of the Leslie. Then this past Thursday night, while playing it the same thing happened on the main channel. Sudden death. You can hear the sound as you run the expression pedal up and down, but it is very faint and distant sounding. The only way to get any power out of it is to put the Leslie switches down with the Leslie Chorus switch on also. At that point-- the main speakers will play as they are supposed to. Otherwise they are dead. The bottom manual is also completely dead no matter what you do. No sound at all. An organ tech in Texarkana has the 700 cabinet that was with it. It was all working but the Leslie wouldn't spin. The Leslie speaker would power upwouldn't spin. I'm going to try to clean all the connectorsI can find and hope that changes something. Will tackle that tomorrow afternoon. I think I've had enough Hammond lessons for today. Now that I got the top up I should be able to tackle some of these connectors you are talking about. Maybe I'll get it straightened out so I can enjoy playing it. Right now, it seems to be a learning experience.

Have you had to acquire any parts for your concorde? I have a 2127 that has had some of the preset tabs snapped off...I have some of the tabs and they can probably be glued back. The switch is still attached..just the tabs are snapped. I'm gonna have to sell or donate this guy..and i want to be able to direct the buyer to where he/she can get parts....i know it's a long shot.
