• M-3 "Clicking" percussion + manual vol. imbalance..?

    Hi all;

    I'm back again, working on a couple of things, seeking wisdom and guidance...

    My percussion is just sort of... "clicking," no matter how the rocker switches are set, and yes, I did try moving the cutoff screw on the back of the amp, to no effect. Does this sound like a tube problem, or something other? At one time in the distant past, the percussion did work as it was supposed to do, but that was 19 years ago, and I'm just now getting the organ back up and running. I'm just not sure what to check, and, not being an organ tech, some of the language I see here in the forum, helpful though it is, can get a bit arcane-sounding and complex! If anyone has any suggestions, the simpler, the better, please...

    Also, I'm noticing a distinct imbalance between the volume of the upper and lower manuals, the upper being significantly quieter than the lower, no matter how I set the volume pedal, rocker switches, etc.. Again--tube problem? I know they're old, old, old... I appreciate everyone's help and patience. I am having a great time with it, now that the machine is essentially working; what a neat invention...

    Thanks,

    Probably a tube problem... second choice would be a capacitor problem.

    The clicking is probably the timing that should start a multivibrator or other circuit to run one cycle of percusive noise. Since it is totally not working, suspect a bad heater in a tube. Search for non-lit one OR one section of a dual being dark. (some have two sections and both need to be lit)

    A schematic and oscilloscope would be necessary to repair in all likelyhood.
