M3 upper manual seems to have lower volume then lower manual.

Using suggested registrations in some beginner books and the upper manual seems to have a little less volume then it should. Are there separate tubes for the manual that could be swapped to see if that changes things or, are all of the pre-amp / amp tubes the same ? I've looked the schematic over ( not expert) and it looks like there are separate signal paths for the vibrato and percussion channels but not the manuals.

What happens when you use the same registrations on both manuals?

Set the drawbars on both manuals to be the same and turn the percussion off. See if the volume on the manuals is the same. Report back.

Volume is the same on both manuals with same drawbar settings but there seem to be two factors involved :
1: the older electronics may be a little dull from age and the higher tones aren't cutting through so , I just need to adjust the drawbars accordingly until I get into more involved things such as tube replacement and possible recapping of the preamp.

2: I'm still learning the notation used for the Hammonds and need to watch for the circles and squares rather than just assuming that top staff is top manual and middle staff is bottom manual. I've got some Ethel Smith books I'm working with and she was great at switching manuals mid phrase . For instance :

The M3 does not have foldback so the last four drawbars do not play across the entire keyboard. This will also be a source of dullness on the top end.

Something else to take into account. Some of the higher notes disappear into almost early Geddy Lee range. I'll have to tinker around with the registration a bit.

Joey,, the higher drawbars disappear because, as i stated in an earlier post, the m3 series doesnt have foldback, the tones do not play in the upper octaves. Pull out the 2' drawbar only (set all other drawbars at 0). Start at middle C and start playing each note cromatically up the to the top C (the 61st note). At some point the sound of the 2' drawbar will disappear. The last 4 drawbars on the M3 will exhibit this feature because they dont have foldback. The B3 does not exhibit this, you will hear the tone of the last 4 drawbars all the way up the keyboard. Since these tones dont sound all the way up the keyboard the keyboard will sound duller than a B3 in the upper range of keys.
