Hey all just picked up two m100 series Hammonds One is a 101 other is 111 Both working so far, as I have been going through testing one has a curious issue that I have not been able to find an answer to. The start motor gear does not engage the tg gear it just pushes it back . If I engage it manually and hold it in place wile I hit start switch it cranks it up fine and brings it up to speed for the run switch. Any ideas how to remedy? Thanks any help

I take it the corresponding gear moves freely along its shaft as you say the motor pushes it back? If so, you can usually adjust the start motor ever so slightly by loosening the two nuts that hold it, and then moving it a bit (the slightly oversized mounting holes allow for some movement). This is usually enough.Current organs: AV, M-3, A-100

It's also possible the run switch NC contact is failed in such a way that it's always open, and the 250 ohm resistor that reduces motor torque is always in play..
With the organ off and unplugged, check with an ohmmeter across that resistor. If it's 0 ohms, the switch is fine. If it's 250 ohms, find a new run switch.

I would try flushing the Bendix gear thoroughly with WD40, followed by drops of Hammond oil directly to the gear and shaft. These gunk up frequently and is the least likely area to receive oil the normal way. Then you can try the more in depth suggestions. Cleaning and oiling work wonders.Larry K

I usually just clean the shaft and gears for this problem, then I oil the whole thing a bit while moving the gear on the tone generator back and forth to work the oil in there. I've had to do this to a couple of M's and has worked well so far.1949 Hammond CV w/1960 Leslie 45 (converted to 145), using H-1 and Leslie 25 amp
