  • Vibrato scanner noises

    Hey all,
I regularly play the same A102 here through headphones, hours daily at times. It has a newer AO28,a 1970 and sounds great!
Today I noticed a very light pinging almost like the fan barely hitting the shroud on my van.Not motorboating though.
Turned on/off the vibrato tabs and sure enough the 'ons' had background noise.
Grabbed the underneath of the lower manual front rail and lifted slightly and set back down, rocked it a little.
The noise vanished.First and only time this ever happened to me.
Part mechanical and part electronic,a very faint presence of both issues at once?
This organ also has drawbar contact dirt to clean up,that's another story.

Will check the 12BH7 and see if that is an issue?

Often a ticking sound in the vibrato is from the scanner rotor contact. You can remove the screw that secures the cap on the back of the scanner and spray a small blast of DeOxit into the vacated hole.

Today it ran quiet.Next time I'll be ready with the stethoscope and some De-Oxit.
Thanks geo for the tip, weirdest 'almost ticking' effect on high frequencies is gone for now, when it returns I will deal with it .
Maybe a pickup magnet is wobbling a little? More electronic than mechanical, weird for sure.
      Thanks again!

I just had one yesterday. While running, there was this strange springy sound coming from the motor area. It also had the ticking issue. One short blast took care of both issues. I guess these contacts are getting worn or the surfaces are developing more friction. The spray takes care of it but it may not be permanent. The springs on two of the contacts must have been "singing" from excessive vibration from the contact friction.
