  • Hammond M3 pedal drawbar does not completely turn off pedal volume

On my M3, you can still hear the pedals even with drawbar pushed all the way in. Is this normal ? The volume is very low but I would think there should be total silence from pedals with drawbar in, the same way the drawbars for the manuals work. Anyway I took off the silver can that is connected to drawbar and loosened the set screw on the rod, so that the drawbar would push it further into the can. It seemed to lower the volume slightly but, still not completely off. I know it is not a big deal but I am curious as to whether this is normal or not. I could not find anything in the M3 manual that shows any adjustment to this drawbar.
Also I think I was able to totally turn off pedal volume after I adjusted the rod but when I installed it the volume was still there .......I geuss if it bothers me enough I could always install a toggle switch in line with the wire going to it and turn off pedals that way. Probably not worth the effort though.

I think the M pedal drawbar only reduces the level, not eliminate it completely. The circuit is similar to the swell pedal, being a variable capacitor. I've worked on five of these but honestly, I've never looked for the pedal volume to go to zero. Did yours do it before and now it doesn't? I can check mine when I'm at the shop Monday.

It is possible that it has always been this way and that I have not noticed it until now. If your M3 is the same way then I have to assume it is normal, and that it is designed to reduce volume but not completely eliminate it.

I'll confirm this afternoon, I'm going to the shop to work on the D152.

        tpappano ,
have you had a chance to check your M3 pedal drawbar?
Just curious if it is same as mine as far as not completely turning off pedal volume
