hello! new form member here and looking for a few simple hammond questions. if you can help plese feel free.

model is the old auroa 8200 and i am simply looking for someone/or a manual to tell me how to set the thing up to sound as close to the classic b3 sound that i can find. i am converting from piano and am simply looking for that classic sound. i do not care about all the bells and whistles and such.

if you or anyone here knows where i can download a manual or better yet just tell, it would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance and hello to everyone!

Depends on what you mean by the 'classic B3 sound', as that means different things to different people.

Are you talking Jimmy Smith jazz B3, or Ethel Smith Tico Tico B3, for example! [:)]

Bear in mind that your 8200 is an LSI Hammond and that they have a different drawbar sound to the tonewheel organs. You also don't have the same type of percussions or the classic scanner vibrato and chorus effects. I think you also have the green and yellow drawbars for the lower - affectionately known as 'hum and buzz'. Stick to the green ones most of the time. An integral part of the 'Hammond sound' for many is the Leslie cabinet and while you do have a built in Leslie, it's not quite the same. Still better than no leslie, though.

I'm nottrying toput a downer on the Aurora class instruments, as they can make some really great sounds, but they're not the same as the tonewheel sounds, that's all. You'll get close-ish, but no cigar. That drawbar page/book will help, but let us know what it is you're looking for and we'll help too.

Convert over from piano with the Aurora (and don't be afraid to use the bells and whistles, they can be fun!) and, when you're well and truly hooked, go for that tonewheel model. Doesn't have to be a console, M's, L's, M100's and T's are still pretty cheap. It's just the consoles and leslies that are expensive!

Meanwhile, have a lot of fun with the organ!

It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.
thanks andy and keith! this is the info i was looking for and most certainly will dub around this eve and experiment. i also understand this is not really a b3 or a classic hammond but, it will do for me (for now). as far as what i mean by classic b3? just the joey d, ron levy. etc.kinda stuff. and the bells and whistles are a tad bit overwhelming but,i am sure to figure it out.

i will start simple and expand and check back in a few days!
