  • Hammond T-582C the tone generator gears are noisy

I just acquired a Hammond T-582C organ. It was stored in a person apartment for several years and never used. I got it when the family needed to get rid of it. I turn it on for the first time and it was stuck on one tone. I oiled the motor and the gears in the drip pan and funnels on the top of the generator. I got the tone generator to start working but now it sounds like gears are grinding loudly. I would like to stop that noise but I don't know-how. I check all the gears and they turn as you turn the shaft manually. But when the motor is running the gears are so noisy that you can't hear your note that you play on the Upper manual.

    Please help...

It most likely needs some oil. There should be instructions somewhere, usually on the fibreboard back cover.
Many will tell you Hammond oil only.I've been using sewing machine oil for forty years no problems.YMMV.
If I want to hear the organ the day I get it?
I drown it with Ronsonal lighter fluid to let the 'naptha' dissolve any old dried up residue left from oil 'evap'.
That adjustable spout will fill a lighter too, perfect for the oil funnels on the generator!Well vented area....
Been catching heck for this too,for about thirty five years......they all start and run though,no worries.
The day after the lighter fluid I add oil, naptha 'evaps' really fast.
