  • C3 and Leslie Low Volume

    Hello everyone,
My name is Dave Rice. I am a long time Hammond Organ owner but new forum member. Thanks for having me.
I have a 1960s Hammond C3 with a 122 Leslie and I fired it up last night. I do not get sound unless the vibrato chorus is on and the sound is extremely soft even with the Leslie turned up all the way. The problem is definitely not the Leslie or the 6 pin cable because I tested them separately. I recently re-tubed the organ so I don't think that is an issue, although I'm not 100% sure of that.
Also the volume pedal is not having any effect.
I'm thinking that there is a breakdown in the signal path somewhere in the preamplifier.
    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Dave

The AO28 preamp has 2 input channels.
    Non Vibrato - input A through V1 6AU6, V4 12AX7 and 1/2 of the V3 12BH7 to the GG outputs.
Vibrato - input B through V2 6AU6, other half ofV3 12BH7 out Terminal C, through the Vibrato line box and scanner into Terminal D then V4 12AX7 and 1/2 of the V3 12BH7 to the GG outputs.

A loss of signal on both channels would point to the 12AX7 or 12BH7. A loss on the vib or non vib would point to the 6AU6's.

The lack of expression pedal could be a loose fastener at the bakelite arm metal fitting that goes onto the pot shaft at 'the doghouse'.

Does the expression pedal feel normal as you operate it? If the linkage has broken and the rotor of the swell capacitor is therefore touching its housing, then that would explain both your issues.
        Current organs: AV, M-3, A-100
        Current Leslies: 22H, 122, 770
