  • M3 EM vs PM Version question

    Hi,

does anybody know if it is possible to put a em speaker in a m3 cabinet which had a pm speaker installed? Will the holes for the screws be in the same place?

    Greetings Christian

The field-coil speaker's coil is an important part of the DC resistance that determines the bias of the amp's output stage, so if you replace it with a permanent magnet speaker, you have to put something in place of the coil or modify the power supply.

Over here, you can get those field-coil speakers reconed, but I don't know if anyone does this in Germany.

I would replace the speaker and the amp too....so that won't be the problem. I was only wondering if it is possible to mount the em speaker in the cabinet.

I have M3s with both types of speakers. Best as I can tell with a ruler, the mounting bolts are arranged the same.
