Can anyone advise if the manuals from a Hammond D (not D152 but early D) are compatible with B3/C3?

Deep inside the Hammond technical manuals available online I'd have to say no.Look it up.Many differences discussed here forever. The answer is no.

Dare I ask why? Is it a foam victim? Chewed up bus bars? You could probably have better success harvesting the necessary parts (key contacts, bus bars) from the D manual than you would trying to get the entire manual chassis to work with a "3" type organ.

Like Pete says, there are lots of minor differences. A major difference has to do with the manual to tone generator wiring harness. The wiring harness with the D manuals will definitely not work on a 3-series tone generator.

A later 91-tone CV manual (1947 and later) will work with a 3-series organ and 3-series wiring harness. I know because I built a Franken-Organ this way. Note that this is just the manuals, not the drawbars. I added a reed switch under the Upper B preset for full Percussion function. The internal manual wiring was the same from 1947 through 1975.
I'm David. 'Dave' is someone else's name.

The harness isn't really a problem - one could just use the -3 series harness. A bigger issue is the fact that the D is wired differently internally; different foldback points and -behavior both in the bass and treble ends.

re: why the question. I have a C3 that I rebuilt. The organ was in damp basement and there was evident moisture and rust. I pulled and cleaned the busbars but again noticed rust. I now have missing tones. So I'm suspecting the busbars. So I'm thinking that since I have to pull the manuals maybe replacing them altogether is an option.
