  • New to this, need help.

Hi all, I'm new here. I just pulled my grandparents organ out of storage, and am looking to restore it. It's a S6, Form B. Serial number 39580. Where can I find a service manual for it? I've looked and looked and can only find schematics. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me. I'm looking forward to starting this old organ up again.

Is there a brand name on it anywhere?

Hammond S6? If so, it looks like a chord organ. I think there are a few of topics on it buried in the forum.

I have a pdf of the service manual but it is about 150 mb. Might have to get creative to get it to you 8)

If you can figure it out, I'd absolutely love to have it. Let me know if there is anyway I can help with that. Thanks-

Try this, it doesn't include the S6, but they all are very similar.
I forget where I downloaded the one with the S6, but it's out there somewhere 8)

I never worked on a S6 but i've rescued lots of old electronics. If it's been stored for a long time you should resist the impulse to plug it in and flip the switch to see if it works. Often it is preferable to reform the capacitors by powering the device incrementally over the course of several hours.

Hi, Yes, it's a good idea. I am taking it really slow. I'm taking it apart a section at a time and checking things. I have found a few wires that were gnawed through. I won't power it up anytime soon. As much as I would like to........

Here is an interesting S6 restoration article with a link to schematics at the end.

Thanks Tom, I read that article. I printed out the schematics, but, I was hoping for the manual that would be a little more in depth. Like how to take different things apart. I'm sure there are service "tricks". And details. I've been trying to find out what guage wire they used. (It's smaller than 20.) (Perhaps 30?)

I have a hard copy of the service manual and i can scan or take some pictures but i'm almost certain that it is not a step by step how to. It is the service reference book for Hammond technicians. I think it assumes that the users are already familiar with the disassembly of the organs. It has though wiring diagrams and pictures helping to identify parts and it goes beyond just the schematic. Let me know if that would be helpful
