  • M3 foldback

Can I ask for some help? I did the foldback mod on my m3 to give me an extra octave in the bass. It sounds fine but the top keyboard is glitchy. Some notes are dead on some pipes. Cleary I've goofed but how?

    any help most grateful

It might help if we had more details.
You did the foldback on both manuals? Octave drop on lower? Poorman's foldback on upper, or added bussbars? Which tones exactly are missing?

Check to make sure the offending contacts are above the appropriate busbar and not below. A slightly bent contact won't hit the busbar.

Thanks kindly for the reply. I'm not sure I understand. I simply moved the wiring loom one octave higher. I then soldered new wires to the next octave and back to the lower octave (foldback) exactly like the YouTube clip below. I assumed it would have no effect on the top keyboard?

        thanks for the reply mate.

Which tones are missing? (x drawbar, x key). Are they missing only on upper, or lower as well?

Thanks for the reply mate. Sorry for the time zone delay. All the notes and drawbars are working on the lower keyboard. There's just suddenly random missing tones on the top keyboard since doing the foldback mod. Tomorrow I'll check which notes and drawbars are missing.

                thanks kindly!

PS possibly I goofed? I simply desoldered the loom and moved the wiring loom (ie that sits above your knees) up 12 lugs and soldered new wires to the bottom 12 and soldered them up to join the next 12 - where the wiring loom now starts. But seeing another video should I have instead kept the original 12 where they were and moved the next octave up two octaves and folded back the new wires up to the second octave? If that makes sense....🤷‍♂️

From what I understand, what you did is fine. It's what I've done on my M3.

Oh that's encouraging. Like i said, the lower keyboard is excellent. It's the top keyboard that is mysteriously glitchy.

Here's a photo of the loom. I revisited the project over the weekend - re soldering suspect wires. Still missing tones on upper keys on various draw bars. Any ideas on where I've goofed desperately needed here

Are the tones missing only on the upper manual? If they are, the problem must be in the wiring between the two manuals.

Thanks for the reply. Yes the tones are only missing from the upper manual. Where would I start to find the fault in the wiring between the two manuals?
