  • Hammond H100 Mallory electrolytic caps

    Dear Forum

In several preamps of my H100 I do find large white Mallory Caps, that are 1uF at 100V. I wonder about the size of them.... Tall like my thumb... Any replacement with 1uF 100V up to 250V are much much smaller.

Did I select the right replacement caps or do I miss a point here?

    Cheers
    Matthias

Those capacitors are probably Mylar film & foil capacitors, not electrolytic. That's why they are larger.

Current production film capacitors are often metallized film construction, which is smaller, and, of course, electrolytic capacitors will be smaller; however, if Hammond decided to use film capacitors for that circuit position, there may be a reason to use film and not electrolytic. Metallized film should be fine.
