  • Hammond Type B3 type VST/AU organ plug ins preferred by real Hammond owners.

I have an M3 and A102 in my studio but I need a lot of practice which will happen at home. If I get to a point where I can add some keyboard into our trio I will also need something for live work as I wouldn't be moving the Hammonds to any gigs.

I am looking at all virtual organ plugins that simulate the Hammond style organs. Not pipe organs. I have one in Logic and is not bad and also have Vintage Organs in Kontakt but I am wondering what other folks prefer when they have to fake it. Arturia B-3V, Acoustic Samples B-5, Air Music DB-33, IK Multimedia B-3X, Adam Monroe Rotary, GSi VB3-II, GG Audio Blue 3, 8 Dio Vintage Organ, CollaB3 are some of the ones I have been seeing. Any thoughts or experience appreciated.

I have a B3 and A100 and wanted a plugin for Logic Pro X as an additional option, because I am not good at miking a Leslie. I used VB3 II some years ago, and then it stopped working last year. I contacted them, asking if I needed an upgrade. I received an automatic response, saying that I would get a real response, but it never came. Not very good support, in my mind. Lounge Lizard for Wurlitzer and Rhodes was far better in that regard.

I found VB3 to be very good because of the amount of tweaking that could be done. But I am not at all happy that I can't use it for now. I have written them again today, but I am not optimistic. The poor grammar used suggests a foreign entity that could care less.

    My two bits.
1955 B3, Leslie 21H and 147. Hammond A100 with weird Leslie 205. 1976 Rhodes. Wurlitzer 200A. Yamaha DX7/TX7. Korg M1. Yamaha C3 grand, 67 Tele blond neck, Les Paul Standard, PRS 24, Gibson classical electric, Breedlove acoustic electric, Strat, P Bass, Rogers drum kit, Roland TD 12 digital drums, Apollo quad, older blackfaced Fender Twin, other amps, mics and bits and pieces cluttering up the "studio."

The IK Multimedia B3-X is officially approved by Hammond-Suzuki. I don't have a lot of experience with Hammonds or the other options, but if money wasn't an option, that is the one I would buy. They also seem to have done the most work simulating all the elements of the signal path.

Current: Allen 225 RTC, W. Bell reed organ, Lowrey TGS, Singer upright grand
      Former: Yamaha E3R

        Yikes. $299.00 US. That's $400 Canadian.

I do have to say that when I listen to samples of this and the VB3, something is still missing, although buried in the mix, they should be fine. I don't think this is purely subjective, meaning that I think what I am hearing can be measured and quantified to explain what is lacking in the software. Others here will likely weigh in with that. Again, just an opinion.

Been trying the demo of B3-X today. It is not bad but it's kind of sad. I'm not really a penny pincher it's just that I bought a gorgeous A102, with bench and pedals for $75.00 and the virtual version of it 3x more expensive...lol. I like that it looks just like my 102 so no doubt I might could learn some stuff from it.

There's a one week demo of the B3X that you can download for free from IK multimedia's website. Personally I didn't find the B3X to be that exciting honestly, especially for $299. The Leslie sounds kind of flat and dull, and when you set the drawbars loud I find it doesn't "scream" in your face. But then again, everybody has their own preference of what they like. Now on the contrary, I find that acoustic samples B5 delivers that sound that we go for. It has various models of organs and Leslie's, and all the parameters are tweakable. Its priced at around $110, but you can find it regularly on sales for $80.

I'd go for the B3-X, it's the one I use on a daily basis @home. And I love it.

Wow! This does sound organic (no pun) and warm. The price is good. Thanks for posting.

Wondering if you can pull the plug-in up in an instance of Komplete Kontrol. I see it uses UVI as the player.

mrsugmad Thanks for the heads up. Watched the vid link you provided and saw it was on sale as introductory and holiday sale so that was all the push I needed...lol. Bit of a PITA to install due to iLok crap but survivable and sounds superb.

I agree the install is a PITA, but it's well worth it. Let us know your findings.
