• 5 Drawbars not working on M-111

After looking for a M-100 for awhile, I finally found a M-111a I picked up for free.

It hadn't been run or oiled in 26 years and took a bit of work to get it started and going. It did have some missing notes on some drawbars when I finally got it running but had a awful screeching sound in the tonegenerator so I let it sit for a couple weeks so the oil could wick into the parts.

Started it up this morning and the screech was gone...but now 5 of the Drawbars for the upper manual don't work anymore (they did the last time I had it on) The Drawbars that don't work are for the upper manuals from 4' to 1 1/3' .

Used De-Oxit D5 on them and didn't see any loose or broken wires anywhere... any ideas where I might try to find the problem. Looked at some wiring diagrams but couldn't figure out what it could be from that either.

    Thanks

Is there a preset "tab" for drawbars? If so, could be the contacts on that.

Also, on many spinet models, the upper notes either fold-over or don't play any of the higher harmonics. Check the lowest notes on each manual and each drawbar; they should always play something.

Could also be the contacts on the keyboard busbars. These are gold-plated and run the length of the keyboard. There will be one rod and wire for each drawbar.

And then it could also be something else entirely that I didn't mention.

Yes, tested it with playing notes on the lower end of the manuals and those 5 drawbars and they don't work at all. I just figured maybe there was something that tied those 5 Drawbars together somewhere that wasn't working. The Drawbars for the lower manuals seem to work fine. They were working fine 2 weeks ago.If the contacts on the keyboard bushbars was bad, wouldn't that not let the other Drawbars for the upper manual not work either? Just checked the percussion too and that no longer works for either hamonics...used to work.

      Thanks

Ok...I think I found where the problem lies and fixed it...I hope. It is a M-111a...with the added percussion. Those 5 drawbars must be connected somehow to the added percussion. I took that unit apart and sprayed it good and kept moving the settings and put it back to drawbars setting and it works fine now. Still have some missing tones and odd sounding notes....guess I'll try to track down those problems next. It's amazing it works at all with all the mouse poop and pee inside it.

Those mice know a good thing when they're on to it... maybe they were church mice, or perhaps they just turned a whiter shade of pale while they were in there?

If you've cleaned the drawbars properly and there are no broken wires - I would check the busbar and also wiggle the drawbar selector tablet (up down AND left right, even though it doesn't move that way... while holding down a note with the problem drawbars extended.
