• Awaiting my Model A!

My A is up at Goff Professional to get fixed up. I bartered running an after school music program at the school where I teach English in order to take the thing out of a basementboiler room....

It looks pristine inside, so I'm hoping that the repairs necessary to get it running will not be too crazy. The Tone Cabinet is missing the reverb tank. Somebody probably cannibalized it for a guitar amp.... grrr....

But the worst thing was when they emailed to let me know that somehow I have the wrong pedal board! My guess is that there were once several organs in the building, and someone made off with one, taking the wrong pedals. The board I have is a 32 pedal board, I think for an RT-2.

I placed a WTB ad for some pedals over in the classifieds.

    I'll post updates

    Re: Awaiting my Model A!

Hi there, I have a 25 note pedalboard for my original Hammond CV that I replaced with a NOS pedalboard..I say NOS...(new old stock)..as the one I found on ebay was MINT..not a scratch on it!....anyhoooo...the one I have extra is VERY worn, but you are welcome to it, but shipping it to conn. would be probably more than what you can get one local for?

Coming thru Indiana anytime soon? ;)

The Tone Cabinet appears to be a JR-20. They used an oil reverb consisting of springe inside oil-filled tubes. The whole thing stood about 3 feet tall, so it was unlikely it found its way into a guitar amp.

It might not be a great loss. The oil reverbs all used crystal pickups to recover the signal, which had a relatively high output voltage. The recovery amplifier stage in the power amplifier therefore did not need much gain.

Modern reverb tanks with magnetic pickups have a much lower output voltage and can't be directly substituted for the old oil units withoput adding a preamplifier to make up the difference in voltage. You will need to go from a few millivolts to a few volts. It might be better to just get a completely new reverb system - something you might want to talk to Goff about.

Sorry, I meant toinclude that Most of the crystal pickups have failed by now and are irreplaceable, meaning that the reverb unit would have likely needed to be replaced anyway.

I think that's an Allen pedalboard. The RT-2 has a metal framed pedalboard.

model a sitting in a basement unused?

            how???

old valuble stuff turns up in strange places... ariel square four in a barn, hammond in a basement. what next?

and i'm sick of all the people making guitar amps out of hammond organs... they use the 6GW8 tubes, and those aren't made anywhere anymore. so not only are they screwed if the tubes go bad, they just screwed over whoever may find the remains of the organ...

[/quote]Thanks for the background on the reverb. I have an old JT-30 Mic that can be wonky, so I know about crystal pups. I'll talk to Goff about the reverb. I might also just ask for an effects send/return and do it that way, but I know a real reverb'd be better.

I also found a pedal board up in Cambridge, MA, from Boss Organ. Tyler has a cool small operation going up there. I was impressed. The pedal board was priced very reasonably and is in decent shape.

That's what the guy at Goff said, well, at least that it was not an RT-2. What is an Allen organ?

I was considering turning it into the core of a home made MIDI organ.... [8-|] not that I really have the skill.
