Hi

I am due to get my 710 Leslie delivered imminently (from the other end of the country) and have got my LCO1A crossover in the post to get her running with my single channel organs. It is only a matter of time before I chuck the rotosonic and put in a proper lower drum as described in the hammondwiki pages. The upper part of the cabinet is the same as a 122 so its only the bottom I need to mod. What I want to know is; are there more than one type of lower motor? I know that pulleys need to be changed to get the speed the same as the big boys and likewise the motor needs to be reversed. Will the existing lower motor be the same as that in other cabinets?

    Cheers

    Dave,

I'm working on a 710 right now, converting it to a 251. (for my M101) The lower motor stack is a little different as it hangs down in a 710 and stands upright in a 147, 122, 251. The slow motor is sprung & shimmed differently as gravity will help it disengage. I opted to buy a 147 lower motor stack for my project rater than fooling around trying to get the 710 stack to work correctly when inverted. Other than direction of travel it may be possible for you to use the 710 motor stack as you will have room for it with the 710 amp in there. I'm going with a tube amp and won't have room.

Iam also changing the lower baffle board, purchased from ValhallaWood Working, to accept the 147 style lower rotor as I am ditching the rotosonic. The cab is getting a 251 amp, 147 dividing network and 16 ohm drivers to match the amp. I have all the parts and need to spend some time out in the garage cutting out the old baffle board and installing the new one. Other than that, mine should be very straight forward other than relocating the lower baffle bearing mount. I should be able to find its exact location using a plumb bob after the lower baffle is replaced.

If you would like I can take pics ofmy lower motor stack so you can make a more informed decision. My email address is in my profile page.

    Best,
