• Hammond J-422 - external amp output, or leslie plug?

seems like ive been blanketing this forum with one dumb question after another... y'all have been so nice helping my clueless behind every step of the way. thank you!

anyway, the story of the found J-422 (which i had originally thought to be a 412) continues.

on the rear panel of the amp, theres a funky plug, looks kinda like a leslie plug? but ive never used a leslie before, so i dont know if it is or not. it only has two pins sticking out, and about 7 holes.

any ex-J series owners know what this thing is for and what plugs into it? ive been trying to find a decent way to make this thing louder for a long time, if theres a leslie that goes to this thing, thatd be excellent.

Yeah, that plug is used for the addition of an external tone cabinet. I forget which ones, though. Isn't the J one of the ones that is compatible with that two piece octagonal Leslie? The 720 and 5xx or something??

no idea... but that gives me something to go off of, at least - if i could find a tone cabinet that works and amplifiesthe sound then that would be wicked!

I just bought a J422 which seems to be in perfect condition, even the case, except for one small cigarette burn. There is a small foil plate on the back under the multipin socket. It appears to be the same dimensions as the Leslie socket I remember from the BC and Leslie cabinet I worked on years ago. It has two male pins sticking out.

The plate says that it is compatable with a model 10 Leslie. It also warns not to let the current surpass 3 amps.

                G'day,

I think you'll find that socket is for a series 10 Hammond cab, like theT series of the same era, and in any case I'm not aware of a model 10 Leslie ever having existed.

                Cheers,

Absolutely correct. It is for a D10 or Series 10 cab. A leslie (125/145 perhaps) would require a 'standard' 26-1 type kit like a 7279.
