Does anyone know why the tonewheels have green or orange paint on the borders? Is it to stop oxidation?</P>

The tonewheels are steel, and each has an associated magnet made of iron and ground to a sharp edge. From the Service Manual:</P>

"The tip of each magnet, as well as the edge of each tonewheel, is coated with lacquer to prevent corrosion, for, should oxidation set in, the change in tooth shape would introduce irregular frequencies."</P>
