I converted my leslie 45 to a 145 using two speed motors. I read a post somewhere thatyou could mount the lower motor in the same down position as the single speedone if you moved the amplifier over a little and changed the location of the spring on the motor shaft. I tried this and it works well but the slow speed motor is right next to the 12AU7 on the amp and induces hum when it is running on slow. I see why Leslie mounted it on top of the speaker shelf now. Can some one give me some tips on installing where it should be? I'm aware there are some clearance problems with the back cover or so I heard. I refinished the cabinet and the stripper took the "Leslie" decal with it. The company that sells replacement lists gold or brass. I'm thinking it was more brass than gold. Would some one set me straight. Thank you all and this is a great forum. I'm not a muscian by any stretch of the imagination. Always loved the Hammond sound and finally bought an A101 and the 45 Leslie. Could never afford a B-3 so now I have the next best thing.

I wish you had asked this yesterday, I had the lower stack out of my vintage 122R!

I will be doing the upper stack tonight or tomorrow and can take you some pics if you PM me an email address.

If not my ole buddy Hammond101 will be along later (different timezone) and he is an expert on these, he has helped me in the past with motors.

Regarding the logo, my 122R has a gold one although not as bright as it would have been 48 years ago!

If you go back a couple of pages on the forum and look for my post on Hammond logo fall board decals, one of bluetantras links in his reply takes you to a site that does them. I got a new logo for my Hammond RT3 for $10 including postage from US to UK.

    Cheers

If you look at the motor stack, the slow motor is not centered with the fast. Meaning that if the slow motor is mounted differently, it can be positioned further away from the tube. Now, since the slow motor mounting plate only fits the fast motor one way, it might seem that it's not possible. However, since the fast motor can be disassembled, it's possible to take the lower fast motor housing and turn it to four different positions. Simply find the best position to hold the slow motor a little farther from the tube.

Another thing I do is add a mounting bracket to the assembly so it has three. The third one is positioned between the motor and amplifier, or on the amplifier side of the fast motor. Now, if you try to push the motor assembly toward the amp, that third bracket will stop it by pushing up into the shelf. This protects the tube from damage when moving the Leslie.

Could someone with a Leslie take a look at the front decal and let me know if they think its brass or gold? I emailed Affleck and their reply was they didn't know. The decal they show looks too gold. Be nice if they showed both. geoelectro...Thanks. I may do that.

The logos should be gold when new but over the years they will get dirtyor polished over. Both of my Leslies are the same a 1963 model and a mid 1970's one and the 1970's one is dirtier than the 1963 model. If you tinted it with coloured varnish it would age it. You need varnish to stick the decal on with anyway.....
