HI everyone! I just wanted to be sure that an electric bass would be ok going into my Leslie 900. I don't know about how the horn driver and the bass lows will interact. thanks.

Re: Electric Bass Through a Leslie 900?
There's a crossover between the bass and treble units at 800Hz. Your bass would go primarily through the 15" speaker, just as pedal and LF sounds would from an organ.

However, having run bass guitar sounds through rotary, it's an odd sound, and unless it's something you specifically want, I wouldn't bother!

I wouldn't turn it up too loud though, replacing the driver and speaker might not be such an awesome learning experience.

Re: Electric Bass Through a Leslie 900?
Sonically I would question the value of bass through the leslie. Since extremely low frequencies are pretty much unidirectional, it will be difficult to hear the rotory effect. Just as you really can't tell where a sub-woofer is located in a room for example.

Be Careful! The notes (frequencies) may be the same as organ pedals but there is a huge amount of lower frequencies in there as well from the attack of picking or plucking the bass. The Thump if you will. Use low volume and I would recommend a low cut filter to keep the long waves away from the Leslie amp and speakers. I'm not sure how much headroom is in that 900 amp. Those real low lows could clip it and cause amp, speaker and crossover damage if you push the issue.

Yes, I have a 9 pin combo pre so I shoved it through the 710. The choral is kind of cool for some things but trem. pretty much sucks if you ask me. Steel is such a smooth sound I don't like it all choppy. You can do organ-like swells with a volume pedal that sound pretty good choral or trem. Part of the issue is sustain. You can't hold a note or chord like on a Hammond. Things get ugly when the notes begin to decay.I never even thought of sticking a bass through a Leslie until I saw this thread. I think I'll leave that to my QSC powered Mesa Boggie bass rig, 830 watts of ground pounding thunder.

[quote user="LeslieSpeaker"]Thanks! I want to experiment with everything through a Leslie...mic the drums, mic the piano, mic the voice, mic the guitar, mic everything and anything. Its gonna be an awesome learning experience.

Take a listen to some old Pink Floyd (eg. Dark Side of the Moon), I don't think there was anything they didn't put thru a Leslie.

Re: Electric Bass Through a Leslie 900?
Thanks for all your help! I tried it, and it sounds real slushy...quite a change from my other non Leslie speakers. If you ask me....there is nothing that doesn't sound good in a Leslie....i mean, i am sure i haven't heard everything, but, everything that I have heard through a Leslie sounds awesome. Now, I'm thinking of a violin, or cello, or, actual piano (like in the beatles song Don't Pass Me By)....Thanks again, and happy holidays./
