• Leslie 122 Upper Driver

    Hello everyone,

I am using an Atlas PD-60 in a Leslie 122. It is somewhat louder then the stock V21 driver and the highs do not mix well with the lows. I was told to put more cotton in the horn shaft to mellow the harshness and bright sounding PD-60. I was also told I could wire a 15 ohm 20 watt resistor in parallel with the PD-60 to lower the volume.

Wiring a 15 ohm 20watt resistor in parallel with the 16 ohm PD-60 driver would give me around 8 ohms for the upper driver. Would this change the crossover frequiency of 800Hz? Will it go up or down? Will an 8 ohm upper driver cause damage to the 122 amp?

    Thanks again guys.

    Hi

There was a long thread on this on the Hammondzone forum regarding the cotton in the shaft. Kon Zissis has carried out experiments on this and has modified his Leslie 122 including a new upper driver

    Cheers

      thanks Dave,

I have seem the thread you are mentioning but it does not descuss the issue of having an 8 ohm upper driver. I was hoping for an answer to my question. I do not want to cause unnecessary harm to the 122 amp.

Again I would discuss this with Kon. I think the lower ohm speakers are reserved for solid state Leslies but cannot confirm. Captain Foldbacks pages have the manuals for many different Leslies. You could probably confirm this by looking at them. I have found a wealth of information in there for mine.
