• half power leslie?

If I remove two of the four 6V6's from my 44W, will it run with half power? I think I read this somewhere.

Careful with that, big shooter! I haven't seen the schemo on it, but doing that can raise internal voltages on some components WAY past their tolerance. All depends on how it's designed.

I've been designing a replacement Leslie amp for a few weeks now, and it has a "half power switch", just like I did to my Marshall JTM head...

Sorry 'bout the bad pic, but you get the idea [:)]

Wait for a more informed answer than mine before you do this *tube removal* thing, though.

I once did this with a 122 amp, not intentionally though. At the time, I had just moved a (nasty) Leslie 122 into my music room the amp was missing a 6550 tube. I had a spare so I stuck it in the amp and fired her up. It ran fine for a few minutes but the volume started to drop and the sound was distorted. I looked down at the amp and the good 6550 was glowing cherry red and the other 6550 wasn't glowing at all. I quickly turned off the amp and removed the bad 6550. I put a second good 6550 in the amp and turned the amp on again. It ran just fine after that.

While I can't speak for a 44W amp, I assume the concept is the same so I don't recommend trying this.
