• MEE Switching with a DPDT centre-off?

I can't seem to get my hands on the half moon switches for decent prices so I am going to give mine to my parents in order to wire up their L-112 to their 25. They want the classic look.

Therefore, I am going to install toggles on my M3 to wire to my connector kit. Obviously the tremolo switch is easy (a simple SPST).

What I would also like to do is establish some sort of digram for using a DPDT (centre off) toggle for MEE switching. I was on the phone with some guy that used to work on hammonds lots before he retired as a tech (they dialed him up from a music store where I was asking questions). He said he most often wired up toggles for the spinets because the moon switches got too hard to track down for reasonable prices and most customers didn't care.

Anyways, he said that he wired it so that console and Leslie were on by default in the DPDT off position. Then switching to each side removed each of the console speaker or the leslie. He might have said that it shorted them out of the circuit. Is that possible? Has anyone done this? I actually think he said you could use a SPDT Centre off. Sometimes these simplest switching ideas take the most brainpower for me, so I am wondering if anyone has experience with this method.

For MEE just use a 3-way guitar pickup switch (only top pickup on -both pickups on - only bottom pickup on) - they are cheap enough and farily standard. If you want to build an enclosure that "mimicks" the Leslie type of switches, a stratocaster-style guitar pickup switch may work for you. Check e-bay, etc; there are a lot of them around, brand new. New guitar pickup switches might come with a wiring diagram, or you can probably find a diagram on the web.

I'm also interested in doing the same hook up but I could not find a switch with center off.

You have the gnd signal of the audio output going to both speakers at the same time, so yes, it would appear that you can use a SPDT switch. The switch toggles between the + destination (spinet/leslie).

However, in my experience of building AB boxes for guitar/bass is that you get more reliable results with a true bypass switch. Meaning, you need a DPDT switch with + on one side as in a SPDT. You use the other poll to switch the gnd between the unused speaker. So whichever side the switch is on, you're grounding out the + lead to the unused speaker and you won't get unwanted noise. Check out the AB box pdf link on this site for a picture of what i'm talking about.

So that's how you short out the speaker which is not in use. But I can't answer your question definitively because I can't tell if its possible to have both speakers on when the switch is in the center position. I would guess that it is not possible without using a different type of switch

I used a mains rated DPDT centre offfor my DIY leslie, but as my leslie had a 117V rotor on bottom, and a 240V rotor on treble, that was kind of necessary.

I have to switch the organ independently.

        This is what I used:

          However, having said that.....

While fiddling with the spinet speakers inside my T500, I shifted 'em around a bit and somehow got it that the existing spinet leslie switch instead turned the internal speakers on or off. This of course only enhanced the BASS unless I switched on the chorus switch which also added the high mids etc.

Ihave photos, but I don't know what I did! I was just trying to bypass the crossover for my leslie which takes its amplified signalvia the internal leslie cable.
