Looking at a Lowrey MX-2 in the local organ store. They're asking $7999. Anyone know if this a fair price. It is in great shape and the cabinet is almost flawless. Everything seems to be working well. I know they went for around $50,000 new. Not sure if this one is the model built in 1991 or one built in the 1992-1994 series.
Thanks
It may not be relevant, but here is my advice. EBay. Dealers do sell MX-2's for that price and more. They, of course, give you a warranty, delivery and probably some free lessons. I had an MX2 that I had purchased new in 1992. At that time, the retail list was $43,500. As I remember, I paid $12,000 plus a Lowrey Parade that I had bought new from that dealer for about $6,000 a couple years earlier.
This past summer, I saw a Lowrey Royale on Ebay. I went to a Baltimore area dealer to see a Royale and understand the current produt line. That dealer said the Royale was $73,500, and my MX2 was worth $9,800. I didn't ask for a trade price but I suspect if I had offerred about $40,000, they would have sold it to me.
I bought the Royale on Ebay for a fraction of what the dealer said it sold for, and put my MX2 on Ebay for sale. I thought I would get about $2,500 for it. The dealer who handled the shipping of the new organ oferred me $1,900 for the MX2. I thought I would get more on EBay, and had a bid of $1,950. But, the bidder backed out on me. When I relisted the MX2 it sold for $1,500. The buyer picked it up. There have been several MX2 recently selling for between $1,500 and $1,800.
So, depending on where you live and what happens to be on EBAY, you can buy for much less that $8,000. But, you don't get a warranty, and shipping is extra. Also, no free lessons. But, dealers offer very reasonable lessons, hoping to interest you in something in their practice room or show room.
