  • Lowery organ trade In concerns

Hello, I had a discussion today with my mother who is 84 years old. She told me that she purchased a new top-of-the-line Lowrey Organ three months ago. She said she traded her three-year-old Lowery Royale Organ and paid an additional $30,000. I then proceeded to ask her what the new Organs purchase price was. She explained to me that they would not tell her and that she was getting a good deal. I have been online for an hour now trying to find out pricing on organs and I had no luck. I’m concerned my mother Is being taken advantage of. I’ve never heard of not sharing pricing. When I find the make of the new model she purchased I will posted here as soon as possible. Thank you for any help you can give me

Lowrey are notorious for this kind of chicanery. No published prices, and their whole business model is based on separating the elderly from their life savings. Much discussed here in several other threads.

Do read through the other threads. It may take a bit of searching but there are one or two with pseudo legal advice (from non legal people!) that's nevertheless worth reading through and checking out to see 1) if it's correct and still current and 2) if it applies in this situation. Did the dealer not provide an invoice when the purchase was made? I'd have thought that was a legal requirement.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Interesting... Feb of 2017, My father paid $30K. He was told it was $37K+. No trade in.
What I was told from the Regional Sales Manager is each dealer is allowed to specify their own prices. That's why you won't find any published prices.

The organ dealers sound as dodgy as car dealers, car dealers prefer used cars to new cars as they can decide the selling price and the profit margin ( large ).

About a million keyboards are sold each year in the United States. I suspect most are under a thousand US dollars in price. Some, like the Korg New Kronos 61 key, keyboard, $3,000.00 US dollars, and the Yamaha TYROS 5, 61 key, keyboard, $5,100 US dollars, are quite nice, in terms of the sound engine and other features.

Given what keyboards have to offer, for the price, in my opinion, Lowery organs are way over priced. With such a huge price difference, I can understand why younger people have no interest in home organs. Unless organ manufacturers, such as Lowery, and their dealers, start competing with keyboards in pricing and profit margins, organ sales will soon drop to zero, when the elderly are no longer in the retail market for home organs. The home organ is a wonderful instrument, that due to the current, in my opinion, short sighted marketing strategy , will soon, in a few years, not be available to the U.S. consumer, across all age ranges.
