  • AT900C ATUP-ex Should i change ?

Being 87 and of sound mind (or am I ?) I gave thought to parting with my AT900C ATUP- and going back to a single 78 note keyboard again. I've had the Roland for about three years but the thought crossed my mind that on my demise, the grandchildren won't be interested in such a beautiful thing. But they might be taken with a keyboard !
I then came across our very own Andy Gilbert doing a great job of explaining and demonstrating the latest Yamaha Genos on uTube. I was so impressed that it took me back to my gigging days.

So now I ask that question again.......Should I change.

Had no end of organs and KB's in the past and used the Roland G70, the Yamaha Tyros series on stage but always with the Roland pedal set.

    What to you think ????

Kindest regards to all Derek Miles.in the UK.

PS. I well remember doing selling demos in the 60's at one of the big home exhibitions with my back to the punters. When finished, no applause but, a queue waiting to fill up order forms laid out on the table by the dolly birds.(Sorry, I meant ladies). What times they were !!!

A lot of keyboard players are adding additional keyboards and pedals to them to try and make them act like an organ they had previously, however it takes a lot of workarounds to do so, (Unless you have a keyboard that is organ first and keyboard second (Wersi, Bohm & Hammond have single manual organs) and is not entirely successful.

It’s nice to think of the future, but as far as music is concerned it is best to concentrate on its enjoyment in the present. (Plus most kids these days just have their head buried in their phone and are oblivious as to what they could do if they put it down)

The final choice is yours but think very carefully before you decide to change.

Genos is wonderful, but I wouldn't change from my Roland, even if the Genos were part of a twin-set, with pedals. Sure, there are sounds and features on the Genos that I'd love to have on the AT900, but that goes the other way too! As for styles, a quick run through some software and anything the Genos has could work on the Roland.

Ever thought about MIDI-ing a keyboard up to the organ. I've never tried it but could do just for fun when I have a bit of spare time!

        Bottom line? Don't change!
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

I really didn't expect to have such a response from you all and I do appreciate the thoughts that you've expressed and, from notable players too. Thank you again.

I think I've had just about every setup there was starting with a "Bird" organ and who would remember one of those, and even emulated Brian S, a great friend, when I stacked three Kb's plus a drum machine on top. The drum machine was given to me by the Stroud folks along with the new "ACE" Kb and what a great keyboard that was. I coupled that with the then unheard of strings on (just had a senior moment) the latest new organs again from the Stroud folks. What were those organs called ? Ah well !

Regards the AT900C, you've put me into a dilemma but looking into the future, I might put a label on it which could read "Rare as hen's teeth".
