We've had a few threads about the DSO-1 organs on the Forum. Let me find some of them and get back to this thread with the links. Meanwhile, you can search the Forum using the search function at the top, right-hand side of your screen.
Welcome to the Forum!
MichaelWay too many organs to list, but I do have 5 Allens:- MOS-2 Model 505-B / ADC-4300-DK / ADC-5400 / ADC-6000 (Symphony) / ADC-8000DKC
- Lowrey Heritage (DSO-1)
- 11 Pump Organs, 1 Pipe Organ & 7 Pianos

Thanks! I did find some links to suppliers in a previous post, but in the follow up the persons said they did not have any luck locating the neons, so I wondered if they were not the correct type.
I've also had trouble finding any information on how to tune the DSO-1, is there a service guide that details the process? Thanks!

Here's a tuning video done on a Lowrey DSO-1

One correction to your video. IIRC, the tuning coil should be tuned using a non-metallic tool. I know Allen organs have the same system, and I think they call it a "tuning wand." I'm not sure if they can still be purchased through Allen, however, you might find something on one of the online auction sites.

Do you mind sharing your approximate location? I have had recent contact with a Forum member, also in New England, who has replaced his neons as well. I can inquire of him to find his source. The other fellow who restored a Lowrey DSO-1 was in Dayton.
When I get a chance, I'll search the information you are requesting.

I know where you can get an equivalent neon to the original. They are manufactured by the same company that Lowrey used when the DSO was created. I will find the the details and post later. There is Yahoo group for the DS0-1 and some very helpful guys on their. this is where I got my information.

Looks like the issue I was having was with a bad tube, not the neons, so I think I'm good for now! The glide feature on my organ is currently disconnected, I see the wires that go to it, they are clipped, but I don't see where they would attach. The switch might be missing. Does anyone have any photographs of the underside of the glide switch and of where the wires attach? I'm wondering if it is still possible to get a replacement switch?
Thanks!

I think they are NE-23 neon bulbs and there is a modern equivalent, although it's a lot smaller than the original. Glad your problem is solved, but if you have other problems, those neons seem to all corrode right where the legs enter the glass and they snap off way too easily. I had spares from a donor organ when restoring my DSO-1, but I think it'd be worthwhile to just replace all of them with modern ones someday. I seem to lose a couple every time I move the organ.
Not sure what you mean with the glide switch, someone cut the wires next to the footswitch? Also not sure about tuning, I wasn't aware that these organs could be tuned other than changing components related to each note's oscillator. Is there a problem with your tuning? Could be related to the glide switch problem!
On a side note, the other day I was tinkering, and found that by turning the little pot on the "repeat" amp chassis you can alter the speed of the repeat function. I set it super slow and it sounds really cool! I never really dug it before, but now it's a feature that I've been using a lot.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, the wires that I believe go to the glide switch are clipped, just hanging out next to the pedal, but there doesn't appear to be any electronics connected to the metal glide lever on the pedal. If anyone would be willing to snap a picture of the underside of their pedal I'd greatly appreciate it!!!
The tuning is mainly fine, but the F's are about 5 cents flat, but it could be the tubes, I'm going through the process of testing all of them and have found many to be testing pretty low. The organ can be tuned from what I read in the manual, but there is no information on how to do it... I assume it is the hex screws located next to the Oscillator tubes, the ones that are recessed in what kinda looks like RCA jacks. Can anyone confirm?
I'll have to play with the speed control, sounds cool! Too bad they didn't put it on the front of the organ :)

Be VERY careful indeed, and use the correct shape plastic tool for this. If you break a coil, finding a replacement may be difficult. It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Thanks again for all of the previous help! I wanted to follow up and see if anyone knows what components are needed to rebuild the glide feature on the pedal.... I have the metal piece on the side but there doesn't seem to be any electronics housed in the "box" that the metal glide is attached to. The wires are cut and in the back of the organ... there is a black, orange, blue and red wire twisted together.

With regard to NE23 neons, they are made here:
https://www.cml-it.com/en/products/l.../Wire-Terminal
I managed to buy a load for my DSO - easily enough to re-neon the whole generator panel and the AOC (although the AOC assembly is much more rugged and doesn't suffer from the valves'/tubes' heat as much). But, I'm not sure this company still supplies to individuals, but rather large companies with big orders.
regards
