  • Gulbransen Leslie control question.

I have had this gulbransen 2134 for about a month and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I can't figure out what knob or switch controls the speed of the Leslie. Also when I turn on the Leslie switch for either manual the volume drops by about 80 percent with no sound from the Leslie. The Leslie spins fine but no sound. I have the service manual but no owner manual. Thank you!

The tab that controls the leslie speed is one of the grey ones in the central group, marked Leslie Celeste, I think. Next to the ones you're using to switch from main to leslie channel.

Sounds like the leslie channel amp is faulty or the switching isn't working. Or the Mercotac contact that feeds the audio from the leslie amp into the speaker inside the spinning Rotosonic drum has failed.

There are a few threads on here about the 2134 President, worth reading through them. Typing President in the search box should find them. Also try typing mercotac, as we've discussed them many times.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Thanks again for your help. I finally nailed it down to the mercotac, lifted it out gently and wiped it clean , reinstalled and it works with just a wee bit of static. Does it require any maintanence or lube before I button up the back cover?

Okay, I just found all the threads relating. Still learning to navigate the site, I find it easy though.

I'd suggest pulling and giving the mercotac a vigorous shake, which well could silence the static. No lube as far as I know is required.

I have a President 4116 which I think is the same except mine has a crude auto rhythm and walking bass.

I experience static as well and so I play mine through headphones so I don't get any Leslie effect. The static is still there but its not thunder. I'm planning a clean out of the insides if I can get a few hours to move the furniture and the organ out of its corner. My wife and mother in law just need to leave for a few hours. I plan to clean the key and tab contacts, headphone jack contacts and anything else I can get at.

Was the mercotac hard to get at? What did you have to remove to reach it? Mine has the Rotosonic Leslie so I guess yours does too.

The mercotac is on the end of the rotosonic drum shaft and pulls off of it. Nothing to remove for access on my organ, but have never seen the inside of a Gulbransen.

A few years ago I had static on mine on the slow speed.
