  • Gulbransen Series 600

There is a Gulbransen Series 600 available for free in my area. The owner says the kids play on it but the pedals don't work. He thinks his son installed them improperly.

Are the pedals the same as on my President 4116? Mine has prongs that hook into the organ as you lift the pedalboard into place. They must've slid the pedalboard against the organ without getting it properly set in place. I understand that the pedal circuit is very complicated on those and I'm not going to take it if the pedals don't work after they're installed properly.

I'm sure it would be a nice upgrade because I've read good comments about the sound.

It's a different beastie to the President in terms of sound and features, as you probably already know. It's also a bit later, but there's a good chance that the pedalboard would be similar.

No drawbars, however, and that would be a deal breaker for me, the 600 series never got to me like the President did. Rialto II had the best of both worlds, with drawbars as well as tab voicing that had real reeds and strings, unlike the all-flute nature of the President.

Go have a look and see if the pedals are incorrectly positioned or perhaps not plugged in properly. I'm not sure about the pedal circuits themselves being complicated - the whole organ is more complex overall.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.
