  • Technics SX-GN7 registration pre-sets?

I have a Technics SX-GN7 which I acquired a couple years ago, and am asking if there is a way to set up "pre-set" registrations for various combinations (styles?) created by the factory. For example, I also have a Roland AT30 which came built with eight pre-set pistons which give me on-touch registration changes (e.g. church pipe organ). I've scoured the GN7 manual and see I can create them myself ("Voice Setting Computer"), which isn't really what I want. Short of me missing something in the manual (VERY possible), are there disks on the market to do what I'm looking for? I have the 8-song demo disk which seems to activate the voice-setting buttons, but I don't find that route workable as it seems to turn certain voices off (e.g. bass). Ideas?

Technics did sell preset disks for GN organs which provided different registrations and styles. The only way to get them now is second hand on ebay or similar sites, people tend to sell them with organs though.

The Technics doesn't do 'church pipe organ' terribly well. Not that sort of organ, you had to 'wait' for the GA3 for that. But it can do a 'church-ish' sound, albeit one with no Diapasons!

To be honest, part of the fun of organ playing is 'rolling your own' registrations. Start from a blank canvas. 8' bass plus pedal sustain. 8' flute and strings on the lower, tremolo on the flutes. Now choose just about anything on the upper manual. Start exploring! Those players (and there are plenty of organ and keyboard owners who NEVER set up anything themselves, only ever using the hundreds - or thousands on some Lowreys - of factory presets) who don't explore manually are missing out on so much.

As TC says, there were disks for the GN. Ebay might find some, or you could always see if Strawberry Music here in the UK still have some.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

For my GA3 I bought several discs at http://www.premierorgans.co.uk recently. I don‘t know if Lynne also offers some for the GN however.

Thanks Andy. I see Strawberry does have GN disks. For some reason they skip the 7, although I'd think the 5 would work since they're in the same user manual. I'll do some more research and let you know of my success.

They possibly skip the gn7 as that was not sold in the UK, I would think most of the GN9 disks would also work as they are very similar just few less features on the 7 model.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I just placed an order for a couple registration diskettes from http://premierorgans.co.uk/ and will report back on how they work out.
