  • Upgrade dilemma

First time poster but long time reader.
Not in a rush, but currently have an AT90sl and have been waiting for a AT900 Platinum to become available. These seem to be becoming rarer and harder to come across. As there are a few 900c and 800's with atup-ex currently on eBay, would I be missing out or is it worth waiting? Are these organs superior enough to warrant changing and also is there much of a learning curve on the later model?
Thanks for any thoughts and advice.

If you can find a 900C with the Platinum upgrade, then it is a Platinum. If you hold down the Rotary Slow/Fast button and Rhythm Variations 1 and 4 while switching on, it will boot up into full Platinum mode. An upgraded 800 will do the same.

Yes, the 900/800 Platinum series are superior to the 90SL. More voices, more rhythms, better voices and rhythms. VK series drawbar sounds and rotary simulation - big improvement! Bigger screen, better operating system, more features.......

Learning curve. Yes, but not steep. More like a journey of exploration as you find out what's new. You can transfer your 90SL settings from disk to USB stick and use them as starting points, updating them to use the new sounds.

Well worth upgrading from the 90SL. If you're used to the 25 note pedalboard, then you'll want a 900 or 900C. If you will be happy with the spinet pedals, then the 800 will do just fine.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Excuse my ignorance, but does atup-ex = Platinum?

      What difference does "Artiste" make?

Thanks for the advice. The full pedalboard is not essential so I will try and take a look at an 800 and make sure it does have the expansion to platinum.

ATUP-EX is the upgrade that makes any previous 800 or 900 into a Platinum.

The 'Artiste' upgrade added nothing in the way of new sounds or styles, but did add a lot of factory presets in the Music Assistant. Presumable chasing Lowrey, who were (and still are) putting ever more factory presets into their organs.

            hi

When i first upgraded my 900at with 25 pedals.....there was no indication by Roland and even dealers that Roland Had upgraded with software the 800 and 900 to the Platinum Version.....Of courtse a lot of the techies in this forum did the work Roland should have done to convert files for the MA and discuss the boot and staying with the DOM boot...….when I started having problems....I was aided by very knowledgeable people here...Lastly the vista opening with it panoramic view was enough for me...I have the Platinum edition and I now boot up only in that mode....even though the MA titles are weird...If have problem with them for I can go back to the dom version and see what the title really are....

God Bless Andy for showing me the way how to boot my organ into the Platinum Edition.....Seamaster for reminding from James about perserverance….

I still donot understand why roland is still tight lipped about their products.....If God forbid that something should happen to screw up the bootable files.....which makes your unit work....there are no fixes..

again thanks Andy and the others in this Forum for helping me enjoy my Platinum unit.

            respectfully,
            cheers and god bless
