  • Lowrey NT 300 Holiday

    Greetings.
I looked and did not see where this would best be posted. I just acquired a Lowrey NT300 Holiday in remarkably good shape. I have only found two issues.

The lower manual has the last B on the right that is dead. It was intermittent but then went totally dead.

There is a transient issue with sub-tones generated from varying keys that seem to be associated with the pedals being activated with FLUTES selected.
It will move when a different pedal is pushed. Example, it may be on the next to last E on the top manual until a D is pressed on the pedals. Then it moves.

The transient is the BASS note that would be generated by the appropriate pedal. Next to top E on the upper register will have the E bass undertone.

I suspect transient currents due to dirty cables/contacts.

The B key that is dead seems to be a dirty contact issue. I will pull the unit down to that level and inspect/clean.

Everything else seems to be remarkably flawless.

Thanks for tolerating this Old Musician.

As I get deeper into this organ I find that I need a repair manual for this machine. I want to understand what component boards I am checking the ribbon cable connections to as I go. Any suggestions for a source for the Maintenance Manual for this organ?
    Thanks.

        Moved to Home Organs.

Unplugging, cleaning and reseating all the ribbon cable connections is the first thing to do with the NT series models. Think of it as routine maintenance!

The dead B key will indeed be a dirty rubber contact. Once you can see the offending critter after disassembly, a blast of air from a can might shift it, or a Q-tip dipped in denatured alcohol for something more stubborn. Usually worth waiting until you have a few dead keys or until you have a dead key that you really need, line Middle C!

As well as this forum, there's a Lowrey group at https://groups.io/g/lowreyforum/topics Some of the members there have NT series, though the numbers are dwindling. And a couple of members here also have them.

Picothinker's link is to the owner's manual. A service manual might be trickier, but worth an ask in the dedicated section here on the forum (scroll down the main page and you'll find it!) and on the Lowrey group. Asking Lowrey USA will probably be a waste of time. They're in the midst of closing down operations and people tell me that they weren't much help. And of course the NT300 is almost 30 years old.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.
