  • Lowrey Stardust - Recorded Music (floppy disk) Question...

Is it possible to purchase/download music to be played on this organ via the floppy disk reader? If so, from where?

    Thanks.

If you’re in the UK try Allens Music Centre in Gt Yarmouth, as they are the main Lowrey dealer and should be able to sort you out.
If it’s just Midi files you are after, then there is a boatload on the web (Just do a quick search on Google) to choose from, then you just need to copy them to the floppy disk. (If you don’t have a floppy drive in your computer a USB floppy drive can be got for about £10 from most computer shops)
If its audio files you are after then No, as the floppy disk does not have a large enough capacity to hold them.
In a lot of cases the floppy drive can also be replaced with a USB slot so that you can use USB drives. (USB Sticks are cheap these days)

    Have fun

The Stardust should play back two types of files. 1) Lowrey specific songs, and yes, Allens are your best bet for that in the UK. In the USA, try the nearest Lowrey dealer. 2) Standard MIDI Files. As Bill said, there are millions out there on the web, but most are rubbish and some are from very dodgy sites, so be careful what you click on! There are some very good commercial MIDI file sites, such as Strawberry Music in the UK and Hit Trax in Australia. High quality tracks from both companies, but expect to pay around £3 a song.

When playing back a Lowrey song, the organ will use the exact sounds that were used for recording, but when playing back a Standard MIDI File, it will most likely use a lower quality General MIDI soundset instead.

I don't think the Stardust will record or play any audio files. There are some Lowrey owners on here who may be able to give more advice and you could also try the Lowrey Forum at: https://groups.io/g/lowreyforum/topics
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

So that's sounds like what I want. I essentially want the organ to play a piece that sounds exactly like it would if I were playing it on the organ. Essentially I want a "player piano" effect.

MIDI is too cold and electronic. Yuck.

        Thanks for replys!

Then you may have a hard job finding many files to play back. That Lowrey group is your best best. Sign up and ask the question there and you can be sure that someone will have the information.
