  • Connecting external speakers to at900c

I’m thinking of playing around with the surround rss sound via external speakers, the manual says I should connect 2 powered speakers via 2 output jacks in the organ

I already have an amp and speakers which has a 3.5mm audio into thinking I’ll need this kind of cable.... is this right?

(Also thinking a better setup might be some good PC speakers (which again I think would have 3.5mm in so same lead would be needed).

You'll need to take the output from the 1/4" Aux out sockets at the left of the organ and run them into whatever your amp has. So if your amp has a 3.5mm stereo line input socket, then that lead is perfect.

If your AT900C has the Platinum upgrade and you're booted into full Platinum mode, you have a few extra tricks that the external speakers can play, Ambience is one of them. I've not tried it. However, the most useful thing you can probably do is just to run the reverb signal to the external speakers. Place them away from the organ and perhaps on the opposite wall if you can. The higher up, the better! And be sneaky, plug the cables into the organ the wrong way around, so that the left reverb goes to the right speaker and vice versa. This can give you a very natural sounding reverb. If you think about it, we don't hear reverb from the actual source in real life, but from another point, so doing things this way makes sense! If you can't mount them away from the organ place them on top, as far apart as you can. Experiment with angling them inwards and outwards, to see which sound you like best.

There's not a lot of bass going through the reverb so PC speakers, as long as they're half decent, will do the job nicely. My students had a small set of Yamahas like these, without the subwoofer. They're good, I've got a set connected to this PC. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-YS...xcOL:rk:1:pf:0
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Yes I have auto-ex and can boot up in platinum mode fine so will try that setting thanks as always for your expert advice.

Ps my old amp is Logitech zr2200 it is similar to the Yamaha I think ie with a subwoofer, v bulky though could perhaps be better off without a subwoofer taking up room space.

Just as update I tried all modes ensemble for drums and satellite for organ pipes and ambient for reverb, all interesting, but found the best way to use the speakers was to connect to direct out the speakers either side of organ and at roughly ear height made a significant difference something I will use all time.
