  • Hammond Clone Home organ

Since now home organs getting more and more rare.

Is someone using Hammond Clone as general home organ?
Maybe with some add on to get ordinary home organ functionallity as other sound and/or rythms?
The clone market seems to have increased as the home organ market has dimished.

There are different choices like Hammond SKX, The Viscount Legends, Crumar Mojo, GSI DMC-122 (controller but Gemeni board for hammond and some other sounds)(DMC-122 is aslo the only option in this category that has aftertouch if thats important) and Nord C2D. A problem with these in general is to get them in some kind of organ look alike mode including the sheet holder.
Then to get a more more complete system with better organ look there would be the Hammond XK-5 system or Viscount Legend Classic.
Viscount looks nice but say nothing about touch responce keyboards so I would have skipped that even though it sounds very strange if not having it. I don't know.

Addon could be an arranger keyboard or module. I know of only Ketron who now makes arrangers modules but maybe there are other options. Ketron have an option to choose organ mode. I don't think Yamaha or Korg arranger keyboards have organ mode but they don't have modules.

I wouldn't have minded a Xk-5 system. Especially now when they added Pipe Organ and Transistor Organ to it with the latest FW update. With a Keton module or just some other sound module. But I think it's to expensive, like 10k Euro or beyond +sound module (for sure much more than a AT-900 Platinum if one would ever be avaible used).
I would in first hand have looked into Hammond SKX or DMC-122. I might already have decided for this if it hadn't been the very big problem of in some way build a complete organ of it.

I really never can decide what to get to replace my HS-8.

I thought about the same question, too. Because one can get great hammond sound really cheap.

About 10 years ago I had the following set up: Roland G800 arranger keyboard + Yamaha DX11 synthesizer. The synth was either in the mode of playing its own synth sounds, or it simply was a 2nd keyboard for the arranger keyboard - using the keyboard like on a 2 keyboard organ, to get more sounds out of the arranger keyboard without switching its sounds during playing.

Certainly one could do this is the same way eg with the SKX and any mid priced keyboard.

But what is annoying in such set up in my opinion: You usually have to program both instruments independently for each song. And that is more than twice the effort. Or is there some solution for that (meanwhile)?

And yes, for this you would have to use a 2-keyboard stand with an attached sheet holder and midi bass pedal. This is available - but it sure does not look good for a living room ;-)
    Playing Hammond Aurora Classic & XE2, Hohner E3, Roland G800 & AT500.

There's a couple of other threads chewing this one over at some length, ToH.

If only Hammond UK would sell us a smaller matching Leslie à la the Studio 12 for home use here, then the full-rig XK5 would make quite a compelling proposition mated to something like a Roland BK7m.

Alternatively, and perhaps preferable, they could flog us something like the A405 sold elsewhere as a self-contained home clonewheel.

      But they're doing neither!

Funny, at Bonners we're thinking of doing a youtube video showing the SK2 and XK5 in 'home organ' mode. Heaven knows there are enough clips of them set to 88 8800 000 and 3rd harmonic percussion.

Probably using the internal Leslie sim (suitably adjusted!) rather than a Leslie 21 or our trusty, rather battered but good 760. And maybe a BK7 for the rhythm. Nothing fancy, just basic home organ style, a la Keith Beckingham, that sort of thing.

        Watch this space....

You are right about the drawbars I also wish people would try to do more with them instead of robot bars all doing the same jazz funk thang.

Go for a full Hammond XK5 system https://www.hammondorgan.co.uk/produ...l-system-black then add a Korg Konos https://www.korg.com/uk/products/synthesizers/kronos2/ on top, then finish off with a Roland BK7m accompaniment module https://www.roland.com/uk/products/bk-7m/ also don’t forget an alarm clock to remind you to go to bed once in a while.

Just pricing up a full-rig XK5 and Leslie 3300 (the only option at present). That's £12K at retail. Too salty.

Find a 720 or 715, or even a 415 for home use. They'll handle the drawbars and the non-flute voices. That'll bring the price down.

The point is, Hammond UK aren't offering any new Leslie to accompany the XK5 with home use in mind so their heart isn't in it.

You're right, I don't think they have the home player market in mind at all. It's a tiny market, sure, but it is there and all sales are good sales, adding to profits.

On the other hand a B3 + 3300 would cost almost twice that at retail, so maybe not.

Interesting that Hammond UK have quietly dropped the 122XB.
