  • Technics SX-FN3 Organ FOR 225

    HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL
I just purchased a Technics SX-FN3 Organ for $225.00 is that a good price? Q1. What year did it hit the market? Q2. how can I get a owners manual or User Manual? Q3. are there any things to go wrong with this organ? Q4. I seen on youtube that there is a
Technics SX-FN3K. is that a later model? the only thing I see is the sound rhythm tabs are black. Q5 was this the top of the line organ that Technics made? how much was it worth new?
    Thanks KingKeys

    1) That's a big organ for that amount of money, IMHO! It was released in 1991
    2) Not sure, I think a search of the forum might pay dividends as I'm sure that people have asked about user manuals for the FN3/GN9 before.
    3) Probably lots that could go wrong but probably won't! If you have a major board failure you'll probably have a boat anchor, but you do have that almost legendary Japanese reliability on your side. There were reports of issues with LCD displays going dark, IIRC.
    4) Probably just cosmetic changes.
    5) Yes it was the top of the line, the console version of the GN9 spinet. In the UK, around £12000, IIRC.

If you join the Facebook Vintage Organs Group - I'll spot you if you do and admit you, as I'm Admin there - you'll find that we have several Technics experts there, like the MD of Technics Organs in the UK and at least one of the organ's designers! May also have links or info on the manuals.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

A lot of the Technics organ owner's manuals are available here for free:
      http://www.panasonic.eu/downloads/en_GB/popup.html

Unfortunately, they don't seem to have one for for FN3. They do have one for GN9 Spinet, which will probably be better than nothing.
(Under the Product category Select AV Products, then under sub-category choose Musical Instruments)

If you're willing to pay for a manual, you might check with Greenhills in the UK.

60' Hammond A-100 (free!) Church duty, certainly not "minty"
      Leslie 710 ($80)

The FN3K I think just denotes a different cabinet design, the american and british FN/GN models have different cabinets and switch colours, why i have no idea.

Thank you For the info. so i got a good deal for 225.00. I just joined the Facebook Vintage Organs Group. where can I donate some money to the Organ Forum do you take PayPal? Oh one more question on the Kawai SR70. the 2 11 pin Leslie connectors in the back are Identical? Of one I for the for example the Leslie 540 tone cabinet. I have 1 Leslie 720 hooked up to the 1st 11 pin connector if you are looking in the back of the organ. is not that loud I have the Leslie 720 stationary and Tremolo amps all the way up on the 720 Its loud but its not that loud It should be much louder than the Kawai on full volume. Or is that s the way Kawai designed the organ.

            Hi

Please drop Admin a PM re a donation, I'm sure it will be much appreciated.

I'd have to look at the circuit diagrams for those sockets to tell you whether or not they are identical. I would imagine that the connections to the pins for the straight channels would be reversed. So then if you plugged in two identical leslies, one would amplify left + rotary and the other would amplify right + rotary. One cabinet is not ideal, as I've said before, as you're only amplifying one of the straight channels. You need a second two channel 11-pin leslie on the other socket, or a 540 added to the 720 with a 'Y' lead. The leslie should indeed sound louder than the organ's speakers.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

The 720 should be lot louder than the organ, at full volume they should be deafening almost. I used one in a large club and it was extremely loud if needed, one singer said I had done her hearing damage it was so loud.

As already suggested really need the 720+540+cable splitter to take all the channels, but quite rare now.

Thanks for the Info I have another question can I get any wheres the orig floppy disks for the Technics SX-FN3 I think the floppies have factory sounds or registration stuff on them and a factory reset. I went to TechnicsKeyboard.com and they don't even list the Technics SX-FN3 organ what were these organs rare or something? I have a Rare Kawai SR70 that the reverb setting is way to much.

Yes the Fn3 was rare but is basically same as gn9 so any gn9 discs work in fn3.
