  • Reinstalling Wersi Abacus

    Hi,

My mainboard from my abacus was broken so i completely upgraded the computer within.
I have no backup cd's from wersi so i downloaded the latest oas 7 from their site.
After that i installed windows 7 and then the drivers for the sg12 card and oas 7.
Now when i try to run the oas program i get the error that it could not gain access to the creamware hardware.

Under device manager says that the oas card is working correctly.
Is there something i did wrong with installing these drivers?
Formatted several times and started over but every time the same error.

    Hope someone can help.

It was never designed for Win 7, so it's hit or miss if it works or not, (Some get it to work whereas others don't) so best to stick with XP (32 bit) with SP2 or 3. (The SG driver is designed specifically for XP, not Win 7 or later, hence the reason that even if you get it to load, OAS will not recognise it as it appears to be a Win 7 driver)
Once XP is loaded you will need to turn a lot of the services off to allow OAS to work efficiently.
Contact https://www.wersi-hochrhein.com/ as they should be able to provide you with the XP image discs (Everything that needs to be altered in XP is already done) complete with full instructions.

      Hi Bill,

      Thank you for the reply.
I bought this keyboard second hand and it used windows 7.
Will try to get the XP image discs from wersi hochrhein than, hope these will work on a newer computer.
Had hoped to get windows 7 or even better windows 10 on it as i use an app from the windows 10 store to display my music scores.

        Hi,

You might need to start by installing r7.41 then the subsequent revisions, not just the latest version. I have heard of this fault before.

          Hi,

Is there a website where i can find older versions of OAS? I only have r7.47 found on one of the wersi sites.

Not found any as yet, it might have to come from Germany

Don't bother, it has no advantages over Win XP except you may get the odd extra VST to run solo, (Most VSTs these days require a 64bit system and at least Win 8.1) but due to the age of the VST Host in OAS you will not be able to run them within OAS itself.
NOTE: If you just want to run an SSD with Win XP for faster loading, all you need to do is to disable defrag & indexing.

If you still want to go ahead and put in a significant time and effort, (Going back to XP when you can't get Win 7 to work correctly) then you can download the instructions here. https://app.box.com/s/7pnc2pts3zk529l4x760jwitbr5o759t (You will need to translate it into your preferred language as it's in native German) however my advice is to just forget about it and stick with XP.

          Have fun.

What version of Windows (ugh) does OAX use, out of interest?

Windows 10 64bit with a VST3 Host built into OAX thus allowing the use of modern VSTs. (Apple does not allow 3rd party's to use their OS and Linux does still not support the major plug-ins that most users use)

Does anyone still have copies of 7.42 or possibly 7.43 (the only versions that allowed 12+ free goes of the then various add-on sounds before purchase)
Since a house move I have lost mine.
I also have the Wersi dp card and some other essential bits+pieces to rebuild an OAS system.
Could I edit the registry of a back-up hd to use a different wersi sound card (I have its id)

If you are running one of the latest versions of OAS, you will find that if you highlight the option you wish to try, an additional trial button appears, so all you need to do is get a trial code from Wersi (Music Store) and you will get 10 goes with that option. (This function is also available on OAX)
If you like it you can purchase the full code for permanent use, or if not let it lapse.
NOTE: Some options require other options to be activated first, so you may need to get more than 1 trial activation at the same time.

                    Hi,

I installed my abacus with windows 7 following the instructions from the file downloaded a few post back but when i start oas r47 and load a mp3 or wave it gives the error 'Audio Device Filter not found: CreamWare Play/Rec 01' but it plays the file. For the rest everything is working as expected. does anyone knows how to fix this?

As mentioned in the post OAS was designed for XP not any later system, so the hack to get it to run on Windows 7 will always be hit or miss.

Try going into sound devices in Windows and make sure Creamware 01 is selected for audio, also make sure it has exclusive control.
