  • Technics EA5

Good evening all. I`m a newbie here so please bear with me. I am on the point of buying a Technics EA5 described as having a theatre section to its` voices (12 I think). Thing is does anyone on here have experience of this and if so what are the theatre voices like? Ok or a disappointment? Thanks for reading, I look forward to a comment or three.

The EA5 is a great little organ, but if you're looking for true theatre sounds, it doesn't really do it. The Technics models that do this rather better are the GA1 and GA3.

Assuming that the EA5 is priced at a very low figure, then go for it, enjoy it and start looking for a GA1 or GA3. If you find one, then sell the EA5 and buy yourself the Theatre Organ style disk for the GA series from Strawberry Music. It's packed with extra theatre sounds and you can use or ignore the styles!
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

I'm not recommending it, just drawing your attention to its existence. There's a GA1 on eBay now for £19.99 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mid-Centu...EAAOSwcgNcxvDd

Seller doesn't seem keen to disclose its location for you to check it out. I'd want to try it but for 20 quid.... ...

Thanks again Andy and I know the one you mean Roger. It`s being sold by a charity shop and they won`t tell you where it is until bought and paid for. Would it go in the back of a Honda HRV do you think?

That's not one for me - no idea about size, or anything else I'm afraid. Andyg will know - he knows everything, as you will soon learn if you participate regularly in this forum :-)

It rather looks as though the Technics GA1 is in the centre of Sunderand and sold by The British Heart Foundation.

Technics split so will fit in decent sized mpv or estate, a GA1 for under £100 is lot of organ despite being 25 years old.

Certainly is! Usually as solid as a rock, the only regularly reported issue is the rotary encoder for the tempo etc. These have now been remanufactured by a third party and are both cheap and easy to fit.

Better than the EA5 and around the same age.

Interesting - the GA1 now has 2 bidders taking it up to £22 so far and I thought you would be one of them. Will be interesting to see the final price tomorrow.

Glad you're now settled with the Orla.

Thank you Roger. I`ve just this minute got the bottom half out of the car and put it all together. It sounds nice but I definitely want the Blackpool sounds from TTTF (?) Let me know what the final price is and I`ll go and kick myself, lol.

Bidding has just ended. It went for £76.

                          What's TTTF?

Still a bargain. oh, TTTF is a mistake, should have been TTT or Total Transformation Technologies.

That's a good deal on the GA1! Spend a few pounds more on that Theatre disk I mentioned and it's a cracking little theatre organ.
