  • Is iPad version 9.3.5 compatible with Roland AT350C

Is iPad version 9.3.5 compatible with Roland AT350C. When I connect cable I get an error message saying device will not work with this device. I guess higher question would be is any iPad compatible.
Also when using midiox input monitor I am only seeing notes, no other program or control change messages. I have cheeked midiox filters and they should come thru. Thanks for any ideas

Very helpful answer, Mr. Seamaster! :-\

Steve: I think the main problem is the very limited MIDI functionality of the Roland. You'll not get much more than notes from there.
Regarding the iPad: It depends on what you want to do with it and which apps you want to use. A lot of music apps are updated to versions expecting newer iOS versions in the meanwhile. I had the same problem a few days before. I own an iPad Pro from 2017, which works fine with all current music apps. But I've also still an iPad 3 with iOS 9, which I wanted to reactivate for some simpler apps. But forget it, they are not longer running, as the current versions are not longer supporting previous iOS versions.

      regards,
      Claus

Assuming that through its menus, the Roland can do the same as its larger siblings, I think it should do more than Claus implies. Key on/off. velocity and aftertouch, CC11 expression data, programme change and bank select. On the AT900 these can be set differently for each preset. It won't jump through the MIDI hoops that any of the German products will, but what it does do may well be enough. I'm driving Hauptwerk and Miditzer with mine, and have just started playing around linking the Yamaha PSR-S970 to it.

As for the iPad, as Claus said, older operating systems won't support newer apps and the makers of the apps no longer support or sell the old versions. And O/S updates can often stop your apps dead in their tracks, too!
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Claus, Andy Thanks for replies. I was successful in getting Ipad connected via normal midi connections so part of the issue solved. What I cannot do is get it connected via the AT350 USB connection. Maybe this is limited to only PC and Mac. You are correct as to some of the limited midi. I have established rx for expression pedal and believe I should be able to get Program changes and a few others but after reading manual more seems there are some limits. Will try other common messages over the next few days. What I really wanted to do is to control registration and rhythm variation changes via a midi pedal but now believe the 350 is not set up for this. I have a Roland BK7M (connected to my Technics GA3) for which I have connected a Korg EC5 pedal with homemade cable to control rhythm variation. However for this it is a simple switch contact from foot pedal. Although I have done same by programming Midiox data mapping using the GA3 foot pedals as the switches. I tend to dive more into the tech side and less of the playing side lately. Anyways thanks and take care.
