  • USB sticks and teh Roland Atelliar AT 900 C

Readers will see I have been posting some problems I have encountered having just acquired the organ , this time the lack of a slot to plug in a usb stick. worried me as I was sure there should be one The manual does indicate saving to a USB device but only shows a square USB outlet port in the organ, am I correct in thinking you connect from here into your computer's usb socket and then plug your memory stick also into the computer , or is there some sort of adapter available? I am trying to save registration sets. Ken

I don't have an Atelier but the USB connector is located beneath the right hand end of the lower manual. It rotates 90o left and right. So far as I am aware it will accept a standard USB memory stick. See p.29 of the Owner's Manual.

The 900C already has an internally mounted USB stick on the motherboard for registration data storage. It's referred to in the manual as User memory and that's what shows up on screen as soon as you press Registration on the screen. You don't need an external stick to save registrations. You can create folders on the internal stick, these options also show up when you press Registration on the screen. Each folder can hold a maximum of 99 banks of 12 registrations. Given the tiny size of these files and the large capacity of the internal USB stick, you could almost describe the number of banks you can save as 'limitless'. A careful read, (and then probably some re-reads) of pages 110 to 130 in the 900's manual. (You won't need to know everything in that section, just the essentials!)

Now, although page 115 does recommend that you save 'complex' setups to USB, it frankly is not necessary! Your data is just as safe stored in User as an external USB stick, as they are the same animal!

You can plug in a USB stick to the connector that Roger accurately described in his reply. Here's the one on my 900P. You can back up the internal data to the external stick and then make a second backup by saving everything on that stick to your computer's hard drive. I do a backup from time to time.

You would also use that external stick for copying third party registrations or extra rhythm styles to the organ.

It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Hi Andyg and RodgerM, That will teach me to read with a bit more care, the swiveling USB socket under the lower manual I had glanced at but thought these were extra drives you had to purchase, ( and when I was instruction in workshops some 30 plus years ago I always stressed " never assume anything always check." ) but had assumed this would be included in the saving section much further into the manual so did not pay it sufficient attention. Due to circumstances I have my 900 locates tight up against a right hand corner of our spare room and it is dark underneath the manuals and the usb was sideways on as well so not easily seen, ( and I had run my hands over most surfaces several times but never that end ! AndyG thanks again for the detail on saving, it is a complicated system when you have not come across this before , my only excuse is that quite frankly there are so many finer points you have to get to know about all at the same time, and a very thick manual when compared to other manufacturers I think as you say keep on reading up the main points. My embarrassed but grateful thanks Ken
