  • Finding a new home for a Technics GA-1 (not a classified)

    Hi everyone.

I hope no one minds me posting this, but I'm hoping you all might be able to give me some advice.

A very close family friend recently passed away, and we have inherited his estate. Among this was what I think was one of his most prized possessions, a Technics GA-1 (I believe), which he owned from new.

I'm not musically inclined enough to keep it myself, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on who / which organisation we could give it to that would appreciate it. In an ideal world we'd like to donate it somewhere that it will be used, and enjoyed as much as it was in the past.

I know these organ's aren't worth much these days, but honestly, other than something like a local school, I'm not sure where to look, I don't want it to lie dormant or thrown away. It's a wonderful instrument, and I will treasure the memory of the Radetzky March being played on it at my request when I was a child, but clearly it's time for someone else to enjoy playing it.

    Any suggestions welcome.

I can't think of many better places than the Rye Wurlitzer Academy, which encourages youngsters to listen to, and learn, theatre pipe organ. As part of the tuition they offer, they loan out organs to students to practice at home. I'm sure they'd very much appreciate a GA1.

It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

      Hi Andy,

Thanks so much for your response. That sounds about as perfect as we'd be able to find, given his love of the Wurlitzer, I can only imagine that he'd be delighted for it to be used by an organisation that supports teaching young people how to play them.

      Many, many thanks.

Just realised it's the FA-1 - hopefully they will still be interested

Even more so, I'd imagine, the FA-1 is an awesome organ, and rare.

The last fa1 for sale sold for over £1000 quite sought after in uk, you could sell it and donate the money to the academy they could buy several organs for that amount.

Indeed they could, though a console like that might come in very useful to them as well.
