  • Hard to find info on Baldwins

I'm kinda new and trying to learn. I can find tons of info and many fan sites for Hammonds. But, I get almost no success on web searches for old Baldwins like a 46 and a 230s PROV.
Anyone know why that is? Are Hammonds just that much more popular? Maybe they had a much higher percentage of market share originally. Maybe they are easier to repair? Can anyone point me to a Baldwin enthusiast site that for whatever reason isn't showing up on my web searches?

    DRG,

Baldwins have changed technologies over time. For that reason, it's a bit difficult to identify the exact model/technology inside.

For example, some of the digital organs were made in the US, others by importing technology from Italy and other countries. On this Forum, perhaps AndyG or jbird604 are the best people (among others) to provide any specific information you need.

As far as finding information, I searched for Baldwin 46 schematics, and found several images and other technical material online. Hope that helps.

Way too many organs to list, but I do have 5 Allens:
    • MOS-2 Model 505-B / ADC-4300-DK / ADC-5400 / ADC-6000 (Symphony) / ADC-8000DKC
    • Lowrey Heritage (DSO-1)
    • 11 Pump Organs, 1 Pipe Organ & 7 Pianos

I doubt if there is a Baldwin enthusiast site. Your two best bets are here and the Vintage Organ Group on Facebook. There's also the Electronic Organ Group, but that's new and still rather quiet. VOG is busy and there are lots of people on there who know about the oldies, including one or two who worked for Baldwin at some point.

A 46 should have nothing but old school parts inside. Should be fixable for years! The 230S is 1973 vintage and that's just getting to where you might have custom ICs inside. In fact, with that Syntha-Sound unit in it, that's probably quite likely. Those ICs won't be obtainable now, of course.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

A Baldwin Organ 46 is a tube organ, and the 46C is the church version. They go back to the 1960's.

Oh, thanks. I found different models mentioned on the web with 46 as the first part and some with letters afterward...like C and H.
          BTW, I have a working Wurlitzer 4410

Yes I sent some info to you regarding the Wurlitzer 4410. I have a Baldwin 48C church organ which is a transistor analog organ. It has a great sound for church. Please reply to my email which is [e-mail removed], and we can visit easily.
