  • Identifying Viscount Organ

Hello Everyone. I'm trying to identify the model of a Viscount organ that I've seen for sale. The seller seems to know nothing about it. I've just got a photograph, which I attach. It's a classical model of some kind, judging by the full pedalboard, but I can't see any other identifying marks. Any ideas?

I don't recognize the model at all, but then I know little of Viscount beyond their connection with Baldwin in the US and the current line, which gets quite a bit of discussion here. I would venture to guess that this one is quite old. Doesn't appear to have any kind of combination action, and a pretty minimalist set of features. The slots in the cabinet where speakers would be are peculiar as well. Reminds me of an old line of Gulbransen organs from the 1960's.

If it's absolutely free, not too far away, and in some kind of playing order, it might be ok to pick it up. But there are often (at least here in the southern US) much better looking models available for free or nearly free. OTOH, some older consoles are extremely well built and might do well for MIDI conversions.

IIRC, it's a pseudo classical model. Yes, it has a 30 note pedalboard and 61 note manuals, but its voicing will no doubt be the same as the 'entertainment' models like the C150 - ie lots of stops, all with same reedy sound and absolutely no ensemble at all. Unreliable when new and now probably over 45 years old. It's a piece of cheap Italian junk, basically. Steer very well clear!
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

You said what I was thinking, Andy, but I was a bit timid about saying so. I wanted to say that it looks like it was about to go to the tip, where it probably belongs!
