  • Lowrey Aria Pro or Wersi Pergamon

    Hi All

At present I have a Lowrey Aria Pro and Yamaha Stagea ELC-02. I have been offered at a small cost to trade both these in for a Wersi Pergamon.

    Not sure what to do

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

    Mark

I think if you would find the extra manual useful for registering as well as the greater width of the manuals?
I know I would definitely appreciate having a third manual...

I like the Aria Pro but unfortunately I've also heard of a lot of technical issues with the organ so even if your one is working fine, might be a good opportunity to offload in case it develops a future problem and there's no longer support from Lowrey? ;-)

As for losing the Stagea, you would have to just weigh it up as being a Yamaha, it's a well built bombproof organ...

Do you use the factory pre-sets of the Lowrey, as if so the pergamon has only a fraction of the number of factory pre-sets.
The pergamon will be more future proof as it is constantly being updated via software, however coming from the Yamaha & Lowrey it will require a little effort to get used to the pergamon OS. (Particularly in Pro mode)
All 3 instruments have their plus and minus points, so make sure you try before you change.

Only one of the three I'd entertain is the Yamaha. The other two are timebombs.

          Hi Mark,

Sounds like you have a very difficult decision on your hands, however with the organs you have/are considering, it is a nice problem to have.

In your position I would be considering what it was that had spurred you on to consider the Sonic over and above what you already have, and what it is about what you already have that you are not quite happy with. Probably a pro's & con's matrix if you are doing this with your head - making a decision with your heart, will be very different!

If you are looking at new, at this end of the market, and with the demise of Lowrey, your only current viable options are Wersi and Bohm - everything else is either out of production and therefore have a fixed capability, or at a different end of the market.

There will of course be pro's & con's of Wersi vs Bohm. I like the sounds and capability on the Bohm's (take a look at Claus Ripe's youtube videos), but have never owned or played a Bohm at length to give a players view. However, I have had a Wersi Sonic for just over 3 years, and absolutely delighted with it. It has had numerous updates since I purchased, and with the latest release of OAX 2.5, has the ability to save presets by song in the music archive, it is not up to Lowrey standards in terms of volume of presets, but it is the first release, so will improve. Also, we can now import Yamaha and Rolland styles (I have imported over 500 Yamaha styles, some from Genos), and in the next release we have been given a teaser that we will be able to import Akai samples, thus increasing the already substantial sound library further.

With regards the keyboards and Pro mode, you can split the large keyboards any number of times, so since I have had my Sonic, I have not desired a third keyboard, but if you have the option, why not - it does look good! With regards Pro mode, I leave mine in that all the time, and it is not that formidable to use, you get used to it very quickly, and it gives access to ALL features very easily.

You have to go do an extended play and see if the Sonic fits with how you play.

Good luck with your very hard decision.
          Mark.

Mark, you should maybe come to visit the Kent piano & keyboard fair in January, to get an impression of the new top range Böhm SEMPRA models. ;)

            regards,

Thanks for the invite Claus, if only I had the time. Maybe when I retire - see you in about 15 years!

              Regards
              Mark.

With regards to future-proof: I always find the Wersis a tad more promising using standard PC parts. Obviously activation could pose a problem if changed with parts not authorized by Musicstore/Wersi, but chances are there are workarounds for this, too.

Somewhere else I read how someone fixed his Wersi‘s faulty power supply with a from-the-shelf part.

Now, the audioboard or boards might be a different ballgame, but last time I checked they used a common driver that, in theory, could run a variety of different audio boards.

Claus Riepe: I appreciate the Bohm design and philosophy, too. What is Bohm‘s spare parts policy? 10 years?

Currently they can still repair organs which are 20 years and older. And no problems with missing activations, no longer supported Windows versions,etc... ;)

The main parts of the current SEMPRA generation are industrial standard! The display is used also in planes, for e.g. The CPU in medical equipment, etc. So, these parts are very reliable, and there are very strict standards for spare parts that must be available over a long period of time.

              regards,
              Claus

I'd be interested in your decision. I have a similar dilemma as to whether to change my Lowrey Marquee for a Werrsi Pergammon.
