Hints required on installing ATUP-EX on Atelier at900c

  • #2
Hope it is not too late …. Make a copy of the ATUP-EX USB stick on your PC before applying it on your organ, because it auto erases itself at the end of the process. Who never knows ...

Are you joking? Would this even be compliant with the law? Never heard of a self-destructing installer.

The organ is not connected to the internet so there is no way to automatically register the software to the instrument and prevent piracy, making is the installer disable itself is just prevent users from selling or passing on to other owners illegally, so nothing against the law there.

The fact that one apparently can make copies of the upgrade stick kind of renders the piracy argument a bit less convincing.

Assuming the copy will work, as many programs have code built in that prevents anything other than the original from running, however as I don't have an Atelier Instrument I cannot confirm this.

I had an AT800 AE/UP which I upgraded to the Platinum edition having obtained the upgrade from Tarotrade. It was just a question of following the instructions and I found no problems.n Was I lucky?

Some years ago when I purchased the upgrade I was tempted to make a copy on my PC prior to loading into the Atelier, however knowing that the stick deleted itself once used I was not prepared to risk £1k on an experiment!

So you are warning that the stick might delete itself on copying to a computer, thus rendering it useless in the Atelier afterwards? Crumbs!

Maybe I have to precise a little bit more : it is the Atelier organ which erases the USB stick at the end of the upgrade … And even in terms of copyright, there is nothing illegal in making a private copy of a computer file strictly intended for security purposes and personal use, because you've paid for that. On the other hand, selling it or giving it to a third person becomes completely illegal.
