"Behind this"....what ? That board there ? It has been years since I had a small EL series opened up, so I can't exactly remember the details, but I'm pretty sure you need to take that board out / loose to get at a few fasteners. I recall that, because it struck me as odd that Yamaha would put something together in that manner.

Hi, Yeah behind the black plastic and brackets and stuff there are screws for the upper manual key contacts. I have no idea how to get it out of the way.. I undid the metal bracket. I also undid the 3 screws (i think there was only3) that are holding the actual circuit board in, but it is solid, can not get in behind that either...Got me stumped.

Here are some photos of the inside of an EL-25. These are decent photos that show all the relevant guts of it, but they are only kinda overall views. I would think that the 25 and 40 versions share the same basic chassis, so they might help.

I did not ever need to remove a keyboard on one, so I'm guessing too. But I would think that all the screws that hold the silver colored side rails, and the ones across the front rail need to come out. You probably need to unscrew the black rail on the rear of the keyboard as well. Then with the connector unplugged, tilt the keyboard assembly down at the back edge and slide it out towards the rear, so as to clear the front rail key overhang.

Yamaha service manuals are no real help with this sort of procedure. When I get into a project like this, I tend to take things apart methodically, and keep everything in order, but keep on taking things apart UNTIL I get whatever I'm after out, loose, or accessible. Someone assembled it in the first place, so someone CAN take it apart. Sometimes you take more apart than is actually required though. It is not a problem to re-assemble everything, if you kept everything in order.

Thanks heaps.. As you said,I think i need to just keep unscrewing till i get to where i want to be..It is a little scary, as the organ works and i can play it, so don't want to stuff it up and not be able to. It is just a couple of keys. But to be honest with you, i'm not even sure the keys are the problem, but thought i would start there...
