  • KAWAI E100 or not ?

    Hi all,

I was approached for a repair of a KAWAI organ and the attached picture sent with it. Is this a KAWAI E100 or a model close to that? The owners can't find a model sticker anywhere, front or back, and I want to identify it before going to the place to have a closer look - belongs to a couple staying at home (covid-19) and the organ decided to no longer work - seems to turn on OK but no sound. Haven't been able to find any schematics for an E100 (if it really is) to familiarize myself a little first. I don't want to spend a long time at their residence if not necessary.
My first thought is the Expression Pedal - or maybe there is a relay that engages the speaker(s) - but not sure at this stage.
If someone could identify it - that would be a good first step ...
    Thanks a lot!

Moved to Home Organs where more people should read it.

Kawai used the number E100 twice but this isn't either of them, the spec is too small. This looks like an early E90, from around 1974. Before my time with Kawai by a couple of years but I came across a couple of them.

Expression pedal pots were problematical at times so that is a possibility. IIRC, there were no speaker relays on these oldies, there was usually a good whoomph when you switched on. Power supply, perhaps, not sending the right voltages to the boards. 'Turns on OK' often means that the power switch lights up. Again IIRC, the neon in that is mains AC powered so it's before the power supply anyway. The little STK amp module is another possibility.

Any repair costs would obviously outweigh any value the organ has, but these aren't normal times and I'm sure the owners want to be able to make some music while they're at home.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.
